Chatfield is nestled in the Root River valley near the headwaters of the Root River. It was founded in 1853 by Andrew Twiford and originally served as the Fillmore county seat until it was moved to Preston. The founding population was overwhelmingly from New England and when the community they started grew quickly they deemed it “the Chosen Valley.” Today, almost 3,000 people call Chatfield home…
